Do you have questions about bike tyres?

What is the difference between clinchers and folding tyres?
Most modern bike tyres are no longer glued to the rim like tubular tyres, but are held in position by the rim flanges. For stabilisation, the tyre has a bead on both sides, which is made of steel wire in clincher tyres. In folding tyres, this consists of flexible aramid fibres, allowing the tyre to be folded up compactly. However, the real advantage of folding tyres is their lower weight. Athletic riders therefore usually prefer folding tyres, while leisure cyclists often opt for the cheaper clincher tyres.
What does "flat-less" mean for bike tyres?
The term "flat-less" is a protected marketing term used by tyre manufacturer Schwalbe for selected bike tyres with particularly high puncture protection. The up to 5 mm thick puncture protection belt under the tread is also designed to withstand vertically penetrating tacks. However, there can never be one hundred percent protection against punctures with pneumatic tyres, so the term "flat-less" should not be taken literally.
What sizes do I need to consider when buying bike tyres?

The correct tyre size depends in particular on the spatial limitations of the frame, fork or rim brakes. The diameter of the rims and tyres in particular must match exactly, whereas there is some leeway in the tyre width. Mountain bike tyres are usually specified in English inches (e.g. 29 x 2.25"), whereas road bike tyres are specified in French sizes (e.g. 700 x 23C). It is best to follow the binding European ETRTO standard, in which a small number indicates the tyre width, followed by a larger number for the inner tyre diameter, for example 23-622. The diameter of the old tyre must be the same as the new one; for the tyre width, you can use the ETRTO recommendations in the table below as a guide.

What are tubeless tyres and can I also ride them with a tube?
Tubeless tyres are bike tyres, that are ridden on compatible rims without an inner tube. A liquid sealant ensures that no air escapes. Most tubeless tyres available today can be recognised by designations such as "Tubeless Ready" or "Tubeless Easy". They can be ridden either with a tube or tubeless. When riding with a tube, there are no disadvantages compared to standard tyres that are not suitable for a tubeless setup.
