Gravel bikes – comfortable racers for gravel paths, field paths and asphalt roads

GO BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES OF THE ROAD!

At first it was just an idea, then it became a trend and now it is an entire movement: Gravel bikes are mixing up the cycling world! Somewhere between cross bikes and marathon bikes, a whole new cycling category has established itself. The bikes of this category are as versatile as the grounds they feel at home on. The idea came from the USA, a land where fitness, movement and experience are of high importance. Nowadays, all those who think a road bike is too special for them and who also like to ride off the roads go for a gravel bike. One very important aspect in this bike category is comfort, which is why the frames and components are designed and selected accordingly. The riding position is more upright than on thoroughbred racers, the top tube is shorter, the head tube a bit longer. A better overview and a more relaxed position ensure higher comfort. A larger wheel base offers increased directional stability and higher riding stability. It is achieved through a longer rear stay that provides smooth riding, too. The geometry is thus particularly suitable for long distances. The bikes’ good all-round talents and the capability to work well on almost all grounds are thanks to wider tyres. The tyre widths in this category usually are between 28 and 35 mm. While wider tyres with great grip particularly prove their worth on gravel, field and forest paths, all those who mostly ride over asphalt roads can also choose smaller models. In general, more voluminous tyres have the advantage of being more comfortable, which especially proves advantageous on long distances. As gravel bikes are mostly equipped with disc brakes, they also offer great safety. In this way, long downhills, serpentine roads and bad weather will no longer frighten you. A disc brake reliably carries out its duties. Therefore, gravel bikes present themselves as comfortable, versatile training and touring partners that feel at home in almost every terrain.
