How to use the extras of Backroad Unsupported

The power bank, lighting, and dynamo are standard features on the Backroad Unsupported, controlled via the power switch at the end of the handlebar. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the additional features of your new bike.

Light and high beam

  • The lighting system of the Backroad Unsupported is powered by the hub dynamo in the front wheel. First, make sure that the light cable at the fork end is connected to the socket in the hub dynamo.

  • Set the switch on the power switch (right handlebar end) to the light symbol. As soon as you start riding, the headlights and rear lights receive power from the dynamo and turn on automatically.

  • A slight flickering at first is normal when starting off at low speeds, as the built-in capacitor initially charges to provide up to 5 minutes of parking light (including the rear light) when fully charged.

  • Once you reach about 15 km/h, you can use the handlebar button to turn on the high beam in addition to the normal low beam (approx. 700 lm). This widens the beam and increases the light output to approximately 1,000 lumens.

K-Werk Power Bank

  • The K-Werk is a buffer battery that lets you charge your devices via the USB-C port on the handlebars while it recharges itself via the hub dynamo.

  • To charge your bike computer,  smartphone, or similar device, remove the splash guard from the USB-C port under the handlebars, and connect your device using a compatible USB-C cable. Remember to always put the splash guard back on when the port is not in use.

  • As long as the K-Werk has residual energy, your device will charge automatically – even if you're using the dynamo to power the light at the same time.

  • If you want to charge the K-Werk using the dynamo, set the switch on the power switch (right handlebar end) to the charging symbol. You can do this even while your devices are charging.

  • To check if your K-Werk is fully charged (approx. 4,500 mAh), you can remove the cover from the frame compartment and check the charge level using the 5 status LEDs.

  • As an additional charging option, you can connect the USB-C port to a socket using a compatible power adapter to recharge the K-Werk after your ride. The power switch must also be set to the charging icon.

Off position

  • The "Off" position of the power switch is a neutral position that does not supply power to either the K-Werk or the lighting system. Even in this position, you can still charge your devices via the USB-C port using the remaining power from your K-Werk.

  • Since the SON 29S dynamo does not generate any energy in the neutral position, its power consumption also drops to nearly zero. So at 15 km/h, you only need to exert 0.5 watts.
